Another mini-dress offering from Jessy Ayala. This is a continuation of the themes from the Reckless collection with an emphasis on motorcycle fashion, fetish looks, uniform details, bling, and rich bad girls. We got another Rayna, this time in a blonde ponytail with the very pretty silver Natural Wonder screening. She is going to redress like a dream. I think the gloves echoing the motorcycle jacket collar detail is cool. I would love to get those (or make my own). I also want the leather bear backpack. I hate the dress and don't love the tiny hat perched on her forehead. But that's me. I would also really love a non-Moschino heavy collection at some point. There are other designers out there. So I've heard.
We finally got the long-awaited Latina character with a wonderful bonus in her being Trans! Alejandra has a great sculpt with versatile neutral screening. I was slightly tempted to try for her...but I think I will wait to be wowed by the entire doll...not just the sculpt and the shoes (which are AMAZING). It will be interesting to see if her hair ends up being sooooo long in the production doll. I would also have liked a side part rather than a center-part mostly because we have had A LOT of center-parts lately: Feeling Wild Rayna, the basic Colette and Carolin, Like No Other Nadja...etc. I am sad that they are making her a villain. Why Integrity feels the need to always pit these women against each other...and notably it is often the more diverse characters that end up as the Baddies...just reinforces stereotypes that I could do without.
The looks for both dolls feel 'costumey' to me. Which, based on the story set up for this capsule collection being a promo shoot for a reality television show, is fitting. But both looks feel like overworked Halloween costumes to me. But that is me. I don't want to yuck someone's yum. I am also SOOO tired of mini-dresses and would really love to see some more pieces that can be used in different ways. It would be hard to restyle most of these looks in new ways.
So if you actually did want to buy these girls...well, that was an exercise in pain, frustration, and futility. If you did not email your dealer within mere seconds of their reveal, you likely missed out. And then a similar story for those that waited to get it from the few dealers that wait until Monday to release the dolls for order (Sideshow, Couture Dolls, Doll Peddler...). Honestly, these edition sizes should have been much higher for a capsule Nu Face collection. There are theories that these two dolls are fallout from pandemic issues and were meant to be released last year or with something else. Maybe. We have no idea how things were shuffled around in the last year. What we ended up with is a bit of a drought in terms of dealer dolls and what evidently is another record year for club memberships. So when they KNOW that demand has markedly increased, should not the edition sizes also increase (for the core popular lines)? But if these had been released with two or three other capsule collections, demand would have been diluted across the offerings. When there are six dolls to choose from, people might be forced to pick 3 out of 6. So that makes a little more to spread around. When there are only two...it becomes a bloodbath. The fallout is new and old collectors feeling hurt and frustrated. Some will give up entirely. Others know that this is just the new reality right now. It is what got me off Integrity for about five years...but I came back when the Jem line was announced.
Integrity is trying to build some more positive relationships with new customers especially through the new Open Edition dolls. But I feel right now there is still quite a bit of imbalance happening. Lucky for me, I did not feel the need to order these girls. I am content to hold out for W Club offerings instead and will keep my fingers crossed about getting into the convention again. There are always more dolls coming. ALWAYS.
