Knitting: a wee Katniss cowl

Image
So since seeing Hunger Games Catching Fire...I became obsessed with the Katniss Cowl (like the rest of the knitting world). I also bought a Tonner Katniss doll in order to make tiny versions of the film fashions for myself and to sell. I worked up a bunch of patterns based on the film clothes and plan to sew them up this week. I am planning a cowl for me and thought I would test out some theories with a mini version  for Tonner Katniss instead. I have made three now and I think I have it down for the doll size.  For human sizes I think I will use a combo of crochet and knitting with a focus on the herringbone stitch and and using some short rows for shaping...maybe even a cable to mimic some of the textures.  I tried both for the doll and decided to stick with crochet for the whole thing.   I used a size D hook with knit picks palette fingering weight yarn in silver. And the cowl part is a drawstring cord core with the yarn crocheted around it.   Now...

Hunger Games Costumes at C2E2!

I am excited to see these in person!!! THE HUNGER GAMES COSTUMES EXHIBIT TOUR COMES TO CHICAGO! Blacksparrow Auctions' Hunger Games Costumes Exhibit Tour arrives at Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo (C2E2) this weekend from April 26-28 at McCormick Place. The Exhibit will be at Booth #1209 and will feature original screen-worn costumes of Katniss, Peeta, Effie, Haymitch, Cinna, President Snow, Rue and many more. A special "Reaping" scene will be on full display to greet fans and attendees. As a C2E2 exclusive, Blacksparrow will unveil the "Fire Chariot" costume worn by Academy Award-winner Jennifer Lawrence. The Hunger Games Costumes Exhibit Tour was previously seen in Seattle at Emerald City Comicon. After C2E2, the Tour will end at New York Comic Con in October, where a live auction of the costumes will take place. This is a must-see for Hunger Games fans, as this opportunity is one of only a few times fans can see the costumes up close on ...

Tonner Convention 2012 Day One & Two

Tired!  So tired! Anyway, we are halfway through the fun.  Thursday Night featured some pretty adorable flight attendants dolls, Shelly, Kay, and Captain Paul which featured the supergirl sculpt, a new sculpt (Kay), and what will be the new Matt sculpt.  I was tempted...but must save all pennies for Wonder Woman tomorrow.  The souvenir was a basic "Judy" doll using the Glinda sculpt on the new Starlet body (which I guess is tyler on top and hippier on the bottom...).  Our volunteer thank you gift was a supercool Nu Mood doll that I think is the Kit sculpt?  I was excited since I have not been able to nab one of these yet.  I was able to get the hands and feet from Gigi's Dolls in the vendor salesroom. The Tonner Salesroom had some good steals as always.  I tried to be good, but could not resist two Cami and Jon outfits that were absurdly cheap (Sag Harbor and Play on Words) as well as a City Sleek outfit for my Mom's Miss Revlon doll for...
