Legendary IT 2020 Convention Saturday Recap: W Club and Jason Wu Gala

Woo boy. I am still trying to process both this day, this convention, and the world right now.  I have burst into tears like five times today (out of joy and relief and weariness).

I likely say this every year, but Integrity Toys is a great company.  They go out of their way to take the collectors into consideration. They get it wrong sometimes, but more often than not...they get it right.  Happy 25th Anniversary Integrity Toys!

So the Jason Wu Gala started with the centerpiece reveal designed by Jessy Ayala. Haute Desire Dania Zarr was inspired by Most Desired Eugenia. This gal is wearing a nice intricately draped gown in an electric purple color. She looks pretty in the Hungarian tone (one of my favs) with the brunette hair. Nice piece but again...no gowns for me. I passed mine onto to a fellow collector on the board in order to earn dolly karma (it's real y'all).

Then Carol Roth interviewed Jason Wu. He spoke of his origins with the company and also spoke about how he is doing in the covid-times. It was interesting to hear the entire team mention how prepared they were for this moment after working remotely/virtually as a company for years.  Jason talked about how his time at Integrity really trained him to continue his design work and be resourceful in the current crisis. Super interesting. Again, further proof of how Integrity and its leader, Percy Newsum, is a very forward-thinking person. I also love that I am throwing tons of money at a black-owned, family-centered business with a diversity-based mission. Representation Matters. (Now if only they would add some body diversity to the line...I would be in heaven.)

Fun fact: the original Adele sculpt was based on Erykah Badu.

Jason and Carol then waxed poetic about the new Iselin sculpt...which was a great bait-and-switch because at that point I was like...we are totally getting Iselin. I already had Iselin as my choice in the Dolly Madness betting pool that some of us did for fun.  Jason said Elyse was taking a little break this year in favor of Iselin, Vero 1.0, and Vanessa 1.0 for his 10th anniversary collection. Then he mentioned a new sculpt. Jason revealed a GORGEOUS doll in one of his mini creations for the dreaded Net-a-Porter site in honor of his anniversary and long-time collaboration with the site. A collective groan was felt around the doll collector world.

Of all the Jason Wu collection dolls that came out, I believe Net-a-Porter was the the most difficult to manage.  So that will be an experience to anticipate with dread. The doll comes with a shoe wardrobe and adorable shopping bags. The gown is pleated black lace net and lots of ruffles. The doll had a sleek low pony. I am sure she will be at least $250. She features a shrunk down version of one of the 16" Avant Guard Sculpts. Her name is Aymeline. She is gorgeous. The doll should be on sale very soon and details are to come. Prepare yourselves for battle.

THEN...we bounced back to Alain where he let us know that the Agnes that we've all been drooling over would be the 25th Anniversary W Club Doll and available for the entire W Club to order.  Great news.  I hope she is a gift set. She looks amazeballs.

Okay then back to Jason who reveals that our souvenir doll is....Aymeline!  I was surprised.  She is wearing a really gorgeous mini couture creation in embroidered tulle.  There are great shoes and cool jewelry too...which is a nice surprise since Jason often is basic in the accessory department.  She is super pretty.  I even like the dress...which is odd since I don't do gowns. But it is not a poofy thing so that is a plus for me. It won't eat up too much space in my cabinet. She has some fabulous Diana Ross hair and is in the lovely Light Honey skin tone. She is going to redress nicely and look good in glam 70s looks.

Overall, I think this was a pretty solid convention.  I am always sad when there is no gift set as I love a good gift set. It is also going to be TORTURE to wait to get these dolls. At least two weeks for most of them and then months for Ayumi and Eugenia. Le groan. Though I wonder if they might ship sooner and they just SAID two weeks to get collectors off their backs. Money wise, Eugenia's wait time gives my wallet a slight chance to catch its breathe since I know that there are Jem releases coming any day now.  Also, more club dolls. Probably Dolly Days too.  Oh yeah, and I hope that someday before I die...we will get Dania Mothership.

Okay so here are the dolls and some more of my thoughts. I have lots of them.

I mean look at her. She is a goth dream. Eugenia and Cruella Tatyana are going to be BFFs. Maybe the Sacred Lotus Agnes will reluctantly join them. I think I will use my Long Hair Declan Zipper to be their guy pal maybe?  I also have a Come Live With Me Nigel that I gave a mohawk and tattoos. They can all start a coven together. Muhahahaha.

She comes with that mini McQueen purse that I love.  I am going to guess that this is also inspired by a McQueen fashion from the Fall 2019 collection. She was a throwback to Dark Narcissus Kyori.

Jessy clearly has a thing for old timey cigarette girls or something. Both this Ayumi and the recent W Club Upgrade Eugenia must work at the same movie palace or speak-easy.  I don't get it at all. I do like her hair and face. She might be my Harajuku girl. We shall see. This was a throwback to Miracle Child Ayumi.

Great shoes. Love the chain bracelet. She is soooo pretty.  I am curious how her sculpt is going to read on the shelf next to the other girls. She feels like a slightly different style...but maybe I am just having trouble disassociating her from the OG closed-mouth 16" Avant Garde sculpt. This fashion was from the Spring 2019 RTW Wu line.
